Welcome

Who are we?

ICON (International Contact Nijmegen, formerly known as Foreign Exchange) is a social club for expatriates and members of the international community based in the Nijmegen/Arnhem area of Gelderland.

Our aim is to make friends and have fun together in an English-speaking environment.

We produce a monthly email newsletter for members, and we try to schedule several meet-ups a month, such as coffee mornings, parent and toddler groups, drinks evenings and pot lucks. We also organise seasonal parties at Christmas and Easter, and other special one-off events. See the Activities page for more information about our monthly events.

We have recently decided to try scrapping an annual membership fee, and will charge only €20 per new member family as a joining fee. After the first year, membership will be free, and any costs will be covered by charging per event attended, or holding raffles, etc. Coffee mornings, etc. are free, and members pay their own way at restaurants, etc.

The majority of our members are native English speakers from all over the world, attended an international school in their home country, or lived in an English-speaking country for several years. However, membership is open to all members of the international community who feel comfortable socialising in English.

How to get involved?

Come and join us at a coffee morning or a social event. If you have more time to spare then you can host a coffee morning or mums and tots morning, or help organise one of the larger or one-off events, work on the newsletter or help with the website.
